(Received January 18, at 8.40 a.m.) The fourth daring act of piracy on the China coast within two months has occurred, Captain Reks wirelessly reporting that his vessel, the Pooan, is returning to Shanghai after being thoroughly looted off Swatow. Nine of the wealthiest Chinese passengers were kidnapped and held for ransom. The pirates were disguised as passengers, and took control of the bridge. junks appearing a few miles off Swatow, took off the booty and the nine persons who were kidnapped.
