MR RAMSAY MACDONALD

ADDRESS TO CONSTITUENTS Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 17. (Received January 18, at 2.20 p.m.) A mixed reception, with cheers and boos, greeted Mr Ramsay MacDonald when addressing a Labour audience at Seaham. The interrupters included a* shrill-voiced woman, who, when Mr MacDonald declared that he also was a victim of wage cuts, shouted: ‘ Ninetyfour pounds a week! ” Mr MacDonald rejoined: “Yes, but, expenses must be considered in relation to income.” Mr MacDonald said the booing had been less successful than when he had previously spoken - at Seaham prior to the election; therefore it was a good augury for the future. He added that his supporters at the election had no reason to hide their heads in shame. The Government had made a great beginning, but had only begun to scratch the surface. It could face the future confidently. He explained that when the Unemployment Bill was passed figures would rise, not because trade was going down, but owing to the wider registration, including unemployed at present subject to the poor laws.
