D.W.F.A. BIRTHDAY
Members, together with their wives and friends, celebrated the first birthday of the Dunedin Workers’ Friendly Association in the'Town Hall, Northeast Valley, on Monday evening. Mr T. Smith (chairman) opened the proceedings by referring to the association’s activities during the past twelve months. The evening was spent in playing cards and dancing, and musical items were also given. This association was formed with fourteen members on January 5, 1933. One of its objects is to help members in distress or sickness, and the amount expended in this direction already totals £42. Funds are obtained to carry out this work by social functions held in the Town Hall, North-east Valley, and by subscriptions from members. At Christmas a party was given to the 150 children of members, and to the members were given grocery orders and meat to the value of 7s 6d—a total of approximately £35. The rents for twelve months have absorbed £9O. The membership is still increasing. The committee extends to its many patrons and helpers during the last twelve months its sincere thanks, as it is largely due to their co-operation that the society is able to carry on. The Social Committee is working to fulfil the wants of its patrons.
