RIFLE SHOOTING

KIWI DEFENSE CLUB The Kiwi Defence Rifle Club opened the season with two shoots for the service championship of the club. The attendance was satisfactory on both days, thirty-eight members of the club firing the classification courses as laid down in the musketry course pamphlet. Tho scoring was of an unusually high order. The club members had concentrated on tho service shooting during tho past three seasons to some effect. The service championship shield was won by Rifleman R. Gillick with two excellent scores, 128 and 117, an aggregate of 245 for the two shoots. Second and third places went to Riflemen W, Morton and F. Marks with 238 each. These matches were fired on the lower range by the courtesy of the Defence Department and the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who had the rights for tho uso of the range on the two dates. The club will fire the first stage of the president’s match and Huntly Cup on the hill range noit Saturday, when tho conditions will be ten shots and two optional sighters at 300yds and 500yds. The scores in tho service match for tho two days are as follows:
