DEPOTS.

TO TEE EDITOR. Sir, —While comparisons are odious, the least observant reader cannot fail to notice the diversity of gifts to the two Dunedin food depots as contained in Saturday night’s ‘ Evening Star.’* Both depots are endeavouring to supply food to those who are less fortunate than many of their fellow citizens, yet we find the master butchers, who are ’ always noted for their generosity, placing as it were all their eggs in one basket. In the report referred to there did not appear one donation of meat or smallgoods to the mayor’s depot. Is there a combine at work against this depot, or do those in charge of it prefer to handle frozen meat? At a time like this, when the welfare of the unemployed should be the concern of all, let not the master butchers forget the other fellow.—l am, etc.. Justice. May 3.
