Mr Gerald Bernard Hill, who was for many years connected with the State Fire Insurance Office in New Zealand. died suddenly at his residence on Saturday evening. ?fr Hill, who was seventy-two years of age, was a native of England, and - was educated at a public school in Durham, and spent some time in the United States before coming to New Zealand. For about four years he was accountant of the * State Fire Insurance branch in Christchurch, and was then transferred _as manager at Dunedin. After _ retiring from office he returned to Christchurch to reside. Two of his sons were killed in the war, one is in England, and another in the North Island. Two daughters are nuns in the Colombo street convent. Mrs Hill survives her; husband.—Christchurch correspondent.Recognised as the leading carillonist in England, Mr Clifford Ball, who is to inaugurate the Wellington wap memorial carillon, arrived at Welling-* ton on Saturday by the Rangitata from London. Mr Ball, who is accompanied by his wife, is the official carillonist at Bourneville, England, the famous pioneer garden village, which is associated with the name or Cadbury Bros., Ltd. He is also organist at the factory of Messrs Cadbury Bros. Ltd., through whose generosity he has come to New Zealand. The death is announced of Mr J. H.C. Bond, dominion superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company.Mr Bond entered the Bowen Street Hospital, Wellington, last Wednesday to undergo what was considered a comparatively simple operation, but ho took heart seizure, and passed away last night, lit Bond was previously connected with the traffic department of the Union Company at Dunedin. Before officially opening the season, Mr Bond, president of the Hanover Baptist Harrier Club, presented Mr H. Hayward with a small token of esteem on the occasion of his approaching marriage. A pleasant function took place on Saturday afternoon at the Balm ace wen tennis courts, when Mr A. M'Millan, vice-president of the club, took the opportunity of making presentations to three members who had recently married. Mr M'Millan, referring to the recipients,' Mr and Mrs S. N. Brown; (nee Miss M. Duke) and Mr D. Wilkinson, eulogised their long and loyal services to the club, and assured them of the' 1 high esteem in which they were held by officials and members, and trusted they would long continue to interest themselves in the welfare of the club.
