CAR CRASHES INTO TROLLEY, ONE BOY KILLED, OTHERS INJURED. Three schoolboys were injured, ond fatally, when a motor car crashed into a small four-wheeled trolley on Jervois quay, Wellington, on Saturday evening. The boys were on their way home with a load of wood, and had stopped to repair a wheel of the trolley. A fourth boy jumped clear. The mimes of the victims are:— Dead.—Alexander M‘Donald, aged eight, of 39 Walter street, fractured skull and internal injuries. Injured.—Ronald Humphreys, aged six, of 31 Walter street, head injuries and bruises; Donald Humphreys, aged seven, of 31 Walter street, head and leg injuries. i The driver of the car was John Henry Goldsworthy,'of Hataitai. NIGHTCAPS MINE FATALITY. At the inquest on Robert William’ Duncan and John Nutter, who were killed by a fall of coal in the Black Diamond mine, Dallas Pemberton, who entered with the deceased, deposed that half a chain from where they halted he noticed that there had been a slight fall of coal. Duncan said he would have a look at the spot, and was just going to move when the fall occurred, completely burying Duncan and Nutter. Witness was struck in the ribs and knocked back clear. They received no warning. Duncan had previously examined the mines. The coroner (Mr Lewey, S.M.) returned a .verdict of accidental death, no blame being attachable to anyone. He highly commended the miners for their wonderful rescue wOrk. , i A SAILOR DROWNED. A member of the crew of the cable ship Recorder, J. Tyrrel, was drowned when the ship’s whaleboat overturned in the surf off Muriwai Beach yester- • day summing. Three’ others were rescued. The boat was manoeuvring for a position to tire a rocket in connection with an attempt to carry a line from the beach to the ship. Afterwards an aeroplane from Auckland was used in an effort to get the line to the ship. This was unsuccessful, but further efforts were being made to-day.— Auckland Press Association.
