CROMWELL J.C.
The Cromwell Jockey Club, at its annual meeting on Wednesday night, decided to hold the annual race meeting. No fewer than thirty-two old members were in attenodance, and most of these evidently intend to continue their membership. Mr M. de Bettencor was in the chair. The financial statement showed that on the revenue actually collected to date the loss last year was £227. With outstanding subscriptions, nominations, etc., paid, the loss would stand at £l5O, and there would be a debit balance at the bank of £3O. Future prospects were discussed at some length, and a motion to hold the annual race meeting on March 11 and 12 was carried.
To meet the club’s present liability, a levy of 15s per head on all members was agreed to. In response to a canvass, encouraging support from horse owners and liberal donations from business people have been promised. The stakes will not exceed £650, and in addition there are likely to bo one or two trophies. Mr J. T. N. Grant was elected president and Mr W. Campbell secretary. Mr D. A. Cahili, who had been secretary for some years, declined to take office again.
