WEDDING

GILL —BEDFORD. A charming wedding was celebrated at East Taieri Church on the evening of December 21, when Ella, elder daughter of the late Professor Bedford and Mrs H. D. Bedford, of East Taieri, was married to Nelson James, second son of Mr and Mrs William Gill, of Rotorua. The Rev. Alan C. Watson officiated. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Lloyd G. Bedford, wore a very becoming gown of deep champagne satin fashioned on classic lines, her veil of the same toning forming a train. She carried a sheaf of apricot roses. She was attended by her sister, Miss Margaret Bedford, and her cousin. Mis Joyce Munro, who both looked charming in full-fashioned flowered ninon fr-cks, apricot predominating. They wore large apricot felt hats trimmed with velvet to tone. Little llosslyn Murray, niece of the bride’s aunt, acted as train-bearer, and wore a dainty apricot frock trimmed with kilting. Mr Alton Bodley, of Auckland, and Mr Ray Adair, of Christchurch, acted as best man and groomsman respectively. The church was beautifully decorated by relatives and friends of the bride with orange poppies and copper beech foliage. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the bridegroom’s parents Mr and Mrs J. H. Walker acted on their behalf. The reception was held at “ The Birches,” East Taieri, the home of the bride. Mrs Bedford and Mrs Walker received the guests, Mrs Bedford wearing a chic frock of cinnamon-brown lace with a short coatee and picture hat to tone, and Mrs Walker a becoming gown of black lace with a coatee of black and pink brocade and a smart bowler hat. The guests assembled in the dining room, where the breakfast was served. The decorations here were also carried out in orange poppies and dark foliage. An original note was struck by the tables being illuminated with orange candles in silver caudelabras, even the wedding cake toning in with the decorations. The bridal pair were seated under a beautiful bell of orange marigolds. The bride and bridegroom left for the north by car amidst a shower of rose petals, the bride wearing a smart tailored costume of black, with small black-and-white hat.
