RACES AT WINGATUI
The Christinas meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club was favoured with pood weather on both days. The rather threatening sky on Saturday morning, however, made most of the lady patrons don their smart tailored suits and costumes, instead of the lighter, prettier frocks that one expects at a summer meeting. The grounds were looking very lovely, all the beds having a wealth of bloom, while the lawns were beautifully green and fresh. The members’ stand, roofless since the last •gale, gave the place an unfamiliar air, though half the public stand had been set aside for members, many preferred the roofless, but better position, of the old stand.
On Saturday very few gay summer frocks paraded on the lawns, but the general note of smartness induced by trim tailored effects and small jaunty hats was most attractive. Monday saw a distinct change, and the lawns were crowded with brightly-patterned, crepe de chines aud georgettes, while hats were of the larger, more picturesque variety. Among those specially noticed were Mesdames R. S. Black, P. R. Sargood, Stewart Macpherson, W. Menlove (Athol), J. M. Paterson, J. Richardson, J. Hutchison, J. S. Hislop, J. A. Cook, A. B.
