MB HARRY TURNER CHOSEN BY. FRUIT BOARD [Pm Uhitid Pbms AMom-no*.] WELLINGTON, December 23. Mr H. Turner, of Dunedin, has been appointed by the New Zealand Fruit Export Board as its permanent representative in London. Mr Turner, who is a qualified accountant and a member of the, New. Zealand Society of Accountants, is recognised as a first-class business man and one well fitted to fill the post. He is on the council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, and is president ot the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Another appointment of importance to the fruit industry is also announced. Mr Ralph Paynter, of Hastings, has been appointed the Government member on the New Zealand Fruit Export Board in place of the late Mr E. H. Williams. - A POPULAR APPOINTMENT. As soon as the announcement of the appointment was received in Dunedin this morning Mr Turner was congratulated by many persons connected with the fruit industry. His association with the fruit industry, in an official capacity, has extended over a period ot ten years. He is at present the secretary and manager of the Otago Fruitgrowers’ Council and the Otago director on the New Zealand Fruitgrowers ■ Federation. Unofficially he is also deeply interested in fruit, as owner ot au orchard at so that he knows the industry on all sides. Mr Turner was horn and brought up in Dunedin, a beginning that can be claimed by quite a number of men who hold responsible positions at home and abroad, amongst them the London representative of the Meat Board, There were over 300 applicants for the position now given to Mr Turner, many from various parts of the world, and it gives the honour the greater value to know that the appointment was unanimously made, and that it is a permanency, the previous representatives holding the position only from year to year. Air Turner proposes to leave for .London about March 26. On arriving hewill at once set about an extensive organisation of the marketing arrangements in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and other parts of the Continent.
