TRAFFIC CONTROL.
TO THB IDITOa. Sir, —I am quite satisfied that Cr Mitchell’s proposal to stop all motor traffic between Frederick street and Manse street on Friday evenings merits the support of all citizens who have the interests of the city at heart. This is Dunedin’s busiest shopping area, and when the mass of people are concentrated on the narrow pavements, there is no option but for them to get on to the street, and avoid the crush. Cars are parked (or standing) in front of the shops, and in dodging them you run the risk of being knocked down by a passing motorist. I have heard of several narrow escapes, in which the pedestrian has had to jump out of the way to avoid a head-on collision. Parking areas are provided, and why should not these people leave their cars and walk round the shops as most others do ? If only, they could understand the annoyance they are to women and children who are out to see the sights of the city, I am sure they would park their cars.—l am, etc., Citizen. December 18.
