SUCCESSFUL LIBEL SUIT
[Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., August 6. Hearing has concluded .in the Supreme Court of a case in whick Florence Margaret Baker, a clerk with the Dannevirke County Council, a widow, claimed £SOO for alleged libel, from Osgood and Drury, motor cycle importers, and Stanley Osgood, a director of the firm, as the outcome of. a letter written by Osgood to the chairman of the county council. His Honour Mr Justice Reed said it was clear that the statements in tho letter were libellous, and also clear that they were entirely untrue, as tho defendant Osgood admitted in the box. As the statements in the letter had not been widespread, and those who heard them exonerated the plaintiff, His Honour held that it was not a case for heavy damages. Judgment was for £SO against botK defendants.
