PERMANENT ORGANISATION
AH AUCKLAND PROPOSAL [SrKnjiL ro tm ‘ Stax.’] AUCKLAND, December 18., Proposals for the formation of a permanent unemployed organisation in Auckland were placed before a meeting of 150 workless men this morning, and it was decided to consider the question further at a meeting on Monday next. The meeting was conducted with the utmost orderliness. It was stated that if the unemployed were to obtain their rights it was essential to have a permanent organisation, registered in the proper way, and it was proposed that it should be non-political in character. The objects of tho organisation would be to organise tho workless so that they could obtain representation on any committees formed for the purpose of solying unemployment, and a register would be kept of those out of work. A system would bo devised whereby any member who considered that had been unfairly treated _ could have his case specially inquired into. There was a touch of pathos about the report of the Informal Committee, which had sent a telegram to the Minister of- Labour representing the urgency of the position. “We collected 4s lid from the unemployed towards the cost of sending tho telegram,” said tho spokesman. “-The message cost 4s Id, so wo are a halfpenny in credit.”
