TRACK AND FIELD SPORTS Despite the rain that fell during tho progress of the track and field athletic meet at the Caledonian Ground last night and the sodden state of thp tracks the first fixture of the Otago Centro of the New Zealand Amateur Atldetic Association produced some good racing, both in the running and cycling events. A stiff wind was against the runners in .the sprints, but considering the conditions good fields faced the starter (Mr R. Thompson), and there was a fair crowd of spectators. Results:— 100 YARDS A GRADE HANDICAP. W. Churchill, 3Jyds ... ... ... ... 1 W, Smith, Siyds 2 W. R. Lucas, 3Jyds <1 Five started. Churchill came away from the others at 75yds, and won comfortably by 2yds, Lucas a yard hack third. Time, 10 6-10 sec. 100 YARDS B GRADE HANDICAP; First heat: A. G. Holt (Iyd) 1, F, C. ‘ Andrews (3yds) 2, W, Burridgo (ser) 3. Seven starters. Won by half a yard; a yard between second and third. Time, 11 2-10 sec. Second heat : E. W. Henry (15yds) 1, J. First heat: E. Fletcher (100yds) 1, J. Fogarty (scr) 2, C. Conroy (20yds) 3, Fletcher had opened up a big gap by the time the last lap was entered upon, and lie won by 50yds from Fogarty, Conroy being third three lengths back. Time, 2min 28 8-10 soc. Second heat: R. Duncan (100yds) 1, G. Smith (20yds) 2, C. G. Lucas (50yds) 3. Four starters. Won by a. length, Lucas several lenths back. With half the distance covered Duncan and Fletcher were out in front just ahead of Conroy and Fogarty. _ Fletcher led at # the bell, Fogarty lying handy in third position. Fogarty timed his, sprint nicely, and coming round the bend on the outside shot to tho front entering tho .straight and won easily by six Conroy being three lengths ahead of Fletcher. 800 YARDS INTERCLUB RELAY HANDICAP. Anglican No. 1' (P. G. Ward, W. Burriclge, J, W. Johnson, and L. Wright), scr ... ... 1 Dunedin (B. Jones, W. R. Lucas, W. R. M'Lcod, and W. J. Duff), syds ... ... 2 Cavershain (A. J, Mills, C. Clark, S. Corbett, and E, P. Brown), syds 3 Five teams competed. A good race, Cavershain and_ Dunedin holding the load in the earlier stages. The former lost its advantage by faulty transfers of the baton, and Anglican No. 1 gradually reduced the leeway and won by syds. There was a splendid finish for second place, Dunedin getting home by inthes. Time, 2min 37 8-10 sec,
