Two elderly women standing on the platform at the Waverley station were requested tp stand aside to allow a porter leading a bulldog to get by. One of the women said to the porter; “I say, porter, is that dog ferocious?” “No, madam,” the porter replied, “ it’s for Berwick.” . Salt was used on smno London hard tennis courts during a tournament in order to collect moisture from the air, as watering the courts was forbidden because of the shortage.
