REDUCTION IN STAFFS DENIED [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Juno 13. The Director of Education issued a statement to-day emphatically denying that the department had reduced the primary school staffs since 1925. Ho said it was merely a matter of arithmetic. In 1925 the average number of pupils per adult teacher was thirtysix; now it was thirty-five. Further, in July. 192-5, there- were 663 classes of under forty-one pupils, and in February, 1928, there were 972. The figures for classes over sixty pupils were 335 and 100 respectively. In regard to the scholastic results in 1925 the percentage of proficiency passes was 77.70, and in 1927 81.90.
