BUNDABERG MYSTERY
DEPARTMENT STILL INVESTIGATING MINISTER'S DECLARATION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 31. Sir Neville Howse (Federal Minister of Health) states that the Health Department is still mystified as to the cause of the tragedy. It was still analysing the serum held .in Melbourne, but had to wait until full imports came from Bnndaberg. He added that be was determined to clear up the mystery. The department would rather prove itself guilty of gross incompetence and utter carelessness, in finding out what caused the deaths, than protect its own name and allow the mystery to go unsolved. MEDICAL MAN’S SUGGESTION. SEBUM AFFECTED BY HOT WEATHER. BRISBANE, January 31. Dr Tilling, who is attached to the Brisbane City Council, and carrying out immunisation work, referring to the Bnndaberg tragedy, said ho could not discuss tlie position beyond stating that it was the most astounding and terrible calamity that had ever occurred, so far as he knew, in the annals of medical science. He could see nothing for it but to subscribe to the view that some inexplicable change had taken place in the serum after it was used on the last occasion previous to the calamity. 11 was within the realm of possibility that the tremendous Heat experienced .during the last few days might have affected the serum.
