The King has sent, through Sir Austen Chamberlain (Secretary lor I‘oreb'ii Affairs) the following message to the American Shakespeare I'onndntion Tho King commands me to express to vou his sincorest thanks _ lor vour telegram conveying the greetings of the American Shakespeare I'onmlatidii and to assure you of the deep interest with which His Majesty has learned of its participation with the British Shakespeare Committee in tho rebuilding and endowment of tho memorial theatre at Stratford-on-Avon. As the patron of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre His Majesty welcomes the co-operation of the American Foundation, and cordially appreciates the assistance which American actors and actresses are giving at the benefit performances at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. He trusts this may have results entirely gratifying to the cause which the two organisations have at heart.’’
