MONEY FROM LONDON
COMMENT ON AUSTRALIAN BORROWING Press Association —By Telegraph Copyright. LONDON, January 27. ' The ‘Daily Herald’ says: “Another Australian State, South Australia, is obtaining money in London. Tho seriousness of Australian borrowing is not the amount of capital taken out of the market, though this is n considerable sum yearly, nor a feeling of perturbation as to Australia’s ability to meet the interest and redemption. The drawback lies in the fact that continuous issues of these trust securities keep up the rate of interest obtainable for trustee stocks and renders it more difficult to carry out favorable conversions in connection with our own huge debt.” - NEW SOUTH WALES WANTS LOAN. SYDNEY, January 28. (Received January 28, at 10 a.m.) The Assistant State Treasurer (Mr Stevens) announces that the Government intends to secure a loan of £3,000.000 on London at an early date to facilitate the construction of the harbor bridge, the underground railway, and other important public works.
