DANGEROUS RAILWAY CROSSING
REMOVAL OF TREES [Pee United Press Association ! WELLINGTON, January 25. The fatal railway accident at the Longburn-Riongotea road crossing on January 16, when a motor oar driven by the Bev. Tremain, Anglican minister of Rongotea, was struck by the north-bound New Plymouth express, resulting in fatal injuries to the car driver, was the subject of a colonial inquiry to-day. Evidence was given by the driver and the fireman that the crossing was a bad one, because a belt of trees obscured th© view for both enginedrivers and road traffic. The trees are • now' being removed. This was the second fatal accident at this crossing within a fortnight. The coroner expressed the hope that the department would endeavor to have trees removed at all crossings, thereby minimising the danger of collisions.
