BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

FURTHER DECLINE IN SHEEP PRICES. A further decline of about 2s all round was noticeable in the sheep sale at the Burnside stock sales to-day. There was a keen demand for lambs, and it was anticipated that fat cattle would sell at values a little easier than last week. Fat Cattle.—A yarding of 253. The yarding was fairly large and was of good quality. There were many more heavy bullocks forward than last week. As usual, there was a large entry of cows this week. At the time of going to press the sale had not commenced, but it was thought that prices would bo slightly easier than those ruling last week. Fat Sheep.—ln this section 1,908 were penned. The medium entry was of fair quality, the bulk of the yarding being comprised of ewes, of which a good number were heavy-weights. The entry of wethers was not as good as was forwarded at the last sale. The demand was very poor, and values showed a further decline of at least 2s below the previous solo rates. Prices: Prime heavy wethers, 36s to 38s; prime, 33s to 355; medium, 28s to 30s; prime heavy ewes, 25s to 275; prime, 22s to 245; medium, 17s to 18s 6d. Lambs.—There was a fair entry of lambs of mixed quality. A number of pens of plain, some not killable, and a balance of fairly good primes were forward. There was a keen demand at the best rates of last week for all prime lambs, all exporters operating. Unfinished classes were dull. Prices; Prime heavy lambs, 30s 9d to 32s 6d; prime light, 26s to 28s; medium, 24s to 255; unfinished, 18s to 20s. Store Cattle.—There was a big entry of over 300, made up of good conditioned cows and mixed young cattle, together with seventy three and four-year-olds of mixed color. The demand was keen for all classes of bullocks. Prices: Best three and four-year-old bullocks, £ll 3s; medium, £8 5s to £f); one and a-balf to two-year-olds, up to £6. Cows were a shade easier, but there was a good demand. Pigs.—loo fats were yarded, and these" sold at prices about 10s above the reduced rates of last week.
