FAMOUS FINNISH ATHLETE
TO COMPETE IN DUNEDIN
PROGRAMME DRAWN UP
Kino Kcskinon, the famous Finnish athlete who holds the Australasian pole vault and decathlon championships, will appear at a meet in Dunedin next Monday night. This was decided upon at a meeting of the Sports Committee of the Otago Centre last night, when the following programme was drawn up for a meeting to be held on the Caledonian Ground on Monday next at 7 o’clock vault, throwing javelin, 100yds, one-mile flat, 440yds, one-mile medley relay, 100yds ladles’, one-mile cycle, and twomile cycle handicaps. Entries will close on Thursday. It was decided that the admission charge for the meeting should he 6d, with the stand 6d extra.
Koskinen will arrive in Dunedin next Friday, accompanied by Mr P. Thomson, well known in athletic circles, who has noted as trainer to various oversea athletic teams. He will endeavor to give field men locally some coaching during his visit, which should .be productive of much good. Keskinen will compete in the pole vault and javelin throwing on Monday. A likely novelty at Monday’s athletic meet is that dancing will probably be held on the lawn following the sports, appropriate music being provided.
