ALLEGED ASSAULT

A FAMILY QUARREL Charged with assaulting David Lionel Williams and with assaulting Mary Williams at North-east Valley yesterday, a young man named William John Foote appeared before Mr H. IV. Bundle, S.M., in the City Police Court this morning. Accused pleaded not guilty to the assault on the male complainant, but guilty to assault on the female. “ This appears to bo a family quarrel.” said Senior-sergeant Qnartormain. “ The lady concerned is the mother-in-law and the boy who was struck is a brother-in-law."

Tile senior-sergeant added that the wife of accused intended to apply for a separation order. In the circumstances he suggested that the hearing of the present charges be adjourned. The Magistrate: “Was it a serious assault?"

“ No,” replied the senior-sergeant. In reply to the Bench the wife said she intended to make application for separation at once. Accused said his wife’s people were always interfering when he, had a “ bit of a tiff ” with her. Ho alleged that bis father-in-law came home drunk and insulted him.

His Worship decided that the application for separation could be made and heard in conjunction with the present charges on Thursday morning.
