MEETING OF OTAGO CENTRE The Otago Centro ot the Now Zealand Athletic and- Cycling Union hold a meeting at tho Caledonian Ground last evening. Mr G. Bruce presided over a representative attendance, a. number of visitors from Christchurch ,being present. A letter was received from the Chaslanet’s Sports Committee asking lor affiliation with tho centre. A programme of the first annual sports was enclosed. —It was decided that affiliation bo granted, subject to the entrance lees being not more than 5 per cent, of tho total prize money. It was announced that the annual conference of the New Zealand Union would be held in Timaru on December 31. Messrs Bruce and Ncwlands were appointed to represent tho Otago Centre at tho conference. ]b was decided that a remit he forwarded to the conference to tho effect that the minimum entrance fees should be 6 per cent, of tho total prize money. The Secretary of tho Lowburn Caledonian Society ‘wrote asking if it could include a. number of amateur events at its sports on Boxing Day. It was pointed out that several secondary school hoys who usually competed at the meetings there were able performers, and that, apart from their own school sports, there was very little opportunity for them to compete in athletic iiYcetings.' Tho , Secretary stated that at the meetings held ‘under the auspices of tho North "Otago Caledonian Society boys from Waitaki and Redcastle were permitted to compete. The boys ran under union rules, and derived much encouragement from tho opportunity to compote." The centre could not go iar wrong .'if it allowed Lowburn to carry on in the" same way. On tho motion of Mr Kilgour it was decided 'that Lowbnrn’s request he granted, .provided only pupils of primary and secondary schools were allowed to enter. The following dates for forthcoming sports meetings were approved:—Awamoko, . December 17; Maclennaii, December v2T; Berwick, January 2; Tahakopa, December 16; Waitahuna, January 2; Miller’s Flat, December 29; Kaitangata, December 26; Kelso, January 2; Mount Ida, January 2; Port Molyneux, January 2; Strath Taieri, January/ 3; Pounawea, December 27; Chaslautls, December 30; Arrowtown, April 9-; Ran furl y, December 29. Alter some discussion the following resolution was carried: —“That this centre will not approve of any amateur event on club programmes under its jurisdiction excepting in the ease of pupils of primary and secondary schools.”
