THE WARATAHS

HATCH AGAINST IRELAND A HARD GAME. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, November 12. (Received November 14, at 10.30 a.m.) Although tho New South Wales players only won their first Rugby international at Dublin by a narrow margin, they unquestionably gave good value for their victory. It was a iiarcl game, played in brilliant sunshine and on perfect turf; but, while tho Australian backs brought off several rounds of passing, they found the Irish tackling most efficient. The secret of the Waratah’s success was the splendid efficiency of their forwards, who held their opponents in the tight. J. Ford, Breckenridgc, Tanered, and Findlay were conspicuous, while Blackwood surpassed his Irish vis a vis for hooking the ball. Meagher fed his backs readily, hut Lawton was too often tackled in possession. Ross might have profitably done more touch-finding. Bowers again made many blunders in taking the passes, but it was from a rapid combination between him and Towers that Wallace scored the Australian’s trv. Lawton converted.

A quarter of an hour before tho in-terval,-when the visitors led by 5 points, Ireland got a penalty through Ganly. Ireland was certainly more dangerous in the second half, although their backs rarely got into combined movements. Brown, the Parrel brothers, M'Vickers, and Buchanan were tho best of tho pack, which was much below the Irish international standard. Probably the strength of the Australian forwards was largely responsible for this. Davy, the fly half played a great game, defending finely, while once in the first half lie had bad luck to bit the cross-bar when dropping for goal. There was much scrambling play, but. on the whole, tho visitors deserved their win.
