— SATURDAY, JULY 23. (Before Blr J. R. Bartholomew, 5.81.) ALLEGED THEFT. Charles Edwards, the young man who was arrested yesterday charged with the theft of rabbitskins valued at £6, was represented by Blr Thompson. The Chief-Detective, in asking for a remand for a few days, said that the police were making inquiries to ascertain whether there would be any other charges. Ho did not know anything about the accused. Counsel explained that accused came from a respectable home. He was remanded until Friday next, bail being allowed in self of £SO and one surety of a like amount. OUT OF.CONTROL. "“It is obvious that a young man with a record like yours will have to be under discipline for a considerable time,” said the Magistrate in ordering Herbert Hill, aged eighteen, to be detained at the Borstal Institute for two years. Hill was charged with having failed to account, for the sum of 25s to Ernest Harrington. The Juvenile Probation Officer (Mr Lock) said that the lad was first brought under control in 1917, and he later went to Invercargill. He there placed an obstruction in the street with the result that a motor cyclist was thrown off his machine. He was sent to BVearon, hut absconded from there in 1926. In July of the same yea] - , he was convicted of being an idle and disorderly person and was returned to Wcfaroa. He was transferred to a home in Hamilton but broke away from there in November last. REMANDED. Joseph Monsoor was charged with having failed to comply with the terms of a maintenance order made in respect to his wife. Blr Hanlon appeared for defendant aqd Blr Irwin for complainant. Blr Hanlon said the man had only been arrested yesterday, and ho asked for a remand until Blonday. The remand was granted, accused being admitted to bail, in sell of £SU and oue surety of £50, ;
