PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY
The society’s second concert this season will be hold in His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday, the 28th instant, A very attractive programme has_ been arranged, opening with the stirring march, ‘ Our Boys,’ composed hy the society’s conductor. This will he followed by ‘ A Children’s. Overture,’ by Quilter, this being performed for the first time in Dunedin. When this overture was performed by the Queen’s Hall Orchestra at a promenade concert iu London it was received with great enthusiasm, and has been performed with equal success at many loading musical festivals. The second part of the programme will open with the symphony No. 3, ‘ Eroica,’ by Beethoven. It will be followed hy the ‘ Bavarian Dance Lullaby,’ by Elgar, the horn solo being played by Air W. Smith. The programme will conclude with the overture, ‘ La. Fille tin Contrabandicr,’ by Alouton, this also being performed ifor the first time in Dunedin. The vocalists for this concert will be Aliss Eva Graham and Air AV. G. Hilliker.
