COMPLAINT BY WOMEN BRITISHER. IN AMERICA. , SAN FRANCISCO, July 9. William Caldwell, aged thirty-five, an Oxford graduate and former British officer, sailed for Australia to-day, after an unpleasant experience with the Oakland police. Caldwell was arrested late on Fridav night upon the complaint of Mrs Walga Magadan and two sisters, Lillian and Vivian Jones, and imprisoned for five hours until Mr Gerald Campbell, the British Consul, intervened. It was explained that Caldwell had been an employee of the League of Nations Secretariat at Geneva, and that while on his way to Australia, where he had a position in the Prime Minister’s Department a year or so ago, he would represent the Commonwealth at the coming Pacific Relations Conference at Honolulu.
