THURSDAY, JULY 21. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew,.)' DRUNKENNESS. Harold Borcharn, twice previously convicted within the past six months, was fined £2, in default three days’ imprisonment, on a charge of. drunkenness. Ho was allowed a week in which to pay the fine. CONSTABLE OBSTRUCTED. George Stanley Harris pleaded not guilty- to a charge of having obstructed Constable Hansen in the execution of his duty. The Sub-inspector explained that accused was with Boreham when ho was .•(nested for drunkenness, and interfered with the constable. Constable Hansen said Boreham was in a cantankerous mood when lie Was arrested, and witness found it difficult to got him away from York place, as accused persisted in hanging on to him. He did not attempt to strike witness. “ 1 don’t suppose it’s any good saying anything,” said accused, who was fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment. MAINTENANCE. Alexander ’Williamson Crichton, for whom, it was stated, the police had been searching for eighteen months on a warrant connected with his disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears of which were £3O 4s, was brought before the court to answer the charge. Mr C. J. J*. White, who appeared for the complainant, said that it was a bad ease; the defendant had not paid a farthing on the order, which was made two years ago. It was only when defendant had the impertinence to apply to the R.S.A. up north for support that he was traced. The wife was starving; nr would he if charitable aid had not been forthcoming. Defendant said that lie had had. lor a period of six months, two of the four clnkhen with him. Ho had just got work at Pleasant Point when he was arrested. His wages were £2 10s a. week and toumk His Worship increased the order to £1 a week, and ordered defendant to pay £1 Is solicitor’s fee. In regard to ihe complaint of disobedience, dclendant was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labor, the warrant to he suspended .so long as lie kept up the order and paid 10s a week off the arrears.
