PADEREWSKI’S VISIT
COMING'IN THE ROYAL CAR “What wonderful fingers. 'Watch them as they dance over the keys. They conjure up visions of green fields, placid streams, smiling valleys,_ and verdure-clad undulating hills, vicious roaring winds, crashing waves, stormtossed vessels, the shrieking and sobbing of souls in torment, the loosing of heaven’s artillery, and the clash and crash of angry elements. The scene changes. Comes a sky of azure blue, with the sun’s rays warm and comforting, the silvery glints shimmering on the soft bosom of limpid depths, and Nature proudly' revealing her manifold beauties; the sweet trilling of gaily plumed songsters, the musical rustling of many-tinted foliage, the coming oi a wonderful contentment.” Such, writes a delighted critic, is the playing of Paderewski, the world’s greatest poet-pianist, a patriotic hero, a selfsacrificing man, a cultured gentleman, a great statesman. His tour of. Australia has been a succession of great musical and social triumphs. He has been feted by 7 Governors and political and commercial leaders, and—wfiat is more precious to Paderewski—he has been acclaimed by the people. The world is indeed richer by the presence of such men as this master. In New Zealand eight recitals will be_ given, and at the Dunedin recital, which will take place on Tuesday next, a grand gala programme will be given. The railway authorities are honoring the illustrious visitor by placing at his disposal the Royal car, and also they arc! making arrangements for suburban trains to be delayed until after the per.ftymqpme.
