CHASING A MOTOR CYCLE
TRAFFIC INSPECTOR'S ACCIDENT
SERIOUSLY INJURED

CHRISTCHURCH, March 30
Cyril Cross, one of tho City Council’s, traffic inspectors, is in the Christchurch Hospital, and is in a dangerous condition, as the result of chasing a motor cycle last evening. Shortly before 9 o’clock he sot off in pursuit of a motor cycle on his motor cycle, and at the corner of Woodhatn road and Gloucester street ho skidded. He was thrown in tho air, and landed on his head on the road. He is suffering from concussion and internal hemorrhage. Mr Cross is a married man, not long out from England.

Inspector Cross’s attention was attracted at 8.30 o’clock by _ a motor cycle with a pillion rider speeding along the Woodham road, and he set off in pursuit, drawing abreast of the cycle before the intersection of Gloucester street was reached. Then tho rider swerved, and _ the machines came into violent collision. The inspector was tossed into the air, landing on his head on the road. No stop was made by the rider, hut witnesses of the accident hurried to the inspector’s assistance,. and ho was convoyed to tho Christchurch , Hospital, where an examination revealed that he was suffering from internal hemorrhage. Whether Inspector Cross succeeded in getting tho number of the machine is not known, hut it is probable that he did. Detectives arc seeking tho identity of the two men on the motor cycle, which was an Indian.
