LAW STUDENTS
ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING The, annual meeting of the Otago University Law Students’ Association, held in tho lecture room at tho Supremo Court, was a bright one, the ordinary atmosphere of dull routine that such meetings usually possess being entirely dispelled by the'happy interjections and speeches. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, the former being very satisfactory aiM the mtter showing a substantial credit balance, a state of affairs that speaks well for the retiring committee. Mr Stark, the retiring president, and Mr Mirams, the retiring secretary, were sincerely thanked for their year’s work, and Messrs A. W. Bucbier, C. G. Wilson, F. M. Hanan, and G. B. R. Wilson, who offered their services for a further year, were re-elected. Tho office-bearers elected for the year wore Mr T. E. Sunderland (president), Mr D. C. Muir (secretary), Mr C. G. Wilson (treasurer), together with a committee consisting of Mr Brmitou (first year), Mr Bucbier (capping), Mr Hanan (social), Mr 0. Stevens (debating), ard Mr G. B P. Wilson (sports). DEBATING SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Law Students’ Debating Society was held immediately after that of tho Law Students’ Association, Mr W. M. Taylor presiding. The past year’s activities were reviewed in the' annual report. Keen and active interest was apparent, and tho piesident advised all to take full advantage of the practice in debating afforded by tho society. Messrs F. M? Hanan and W. H. Carson were congratulated on their winning the interfacility debate. Tho committee expresse'd its thanks to all members ot tho profession who had delivered lectures or judged debates during the past season. _ . During tho evening tho following prizes were distributed —Most speakers for the year, Messrs L. A. North and it H Simpson; winner of the oratorical contest, Mr F. M. Hanan; winner of the impromptu speech competition (Mr A. C. Stephens’s prize), Mr W. M. Taylor The following were elected officebearers for 1927 season-President, Mr W. H. Carson; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. M. Barnett; committee— Messrs R. H. Simpson, A. 0. Bucbier, j. Armstrong, and O. G. Stevens.
