WILLIAMS'S GREAT SERVICE
Received September 11, at 1.10 p.m. Tiio first two sets produced brilliant tennis. Both sides made well-earned points, the rallies occasionally bringing the spectators to their feet. The Frenchmen excelled in net play, but the brilliant stroking of the Americans, coupled with greater accuracy, enabled them always to come irom behind. The Americans’ team play was far from perfect. Several times they stood looking at each other, while the ball passed between them. Williams’s service was the outstanding factor in the Americans’ early lead. _ Richards contributed occasional brilliant turns at the net. The Frenchmen threatened to win each set, but found the net from the haso line.
