MURDER CONFESSED

THE JAVA MYSTERY DEATH OF AIRS MACT’IE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WELTEVREDEN, August 12. Two natives named Entjim and Ruben Racmman were charged with the murder of Airs Maefie. They confessed that they committed the crime with the object of robbery, stabbing Mrs Maefie while she slept.—A- and N.Z. Cable. [ln September of last_ year a mysterious tragedy occurred in an hotel at Garoet, Java, AG's H. Campbell Maefie, the wife of a well-known actuary in Sydney, being found dead in her room, with her throat cut and ghastly wounds an her body. Mrs Maefie had been spending a holiday in Java, and the crime, which was without apparent motive, caused a great sensation. Suspicion for a time attached to Air Bernard Kirton, a member of the Sydney firm of Messrs Kirton apd Earnshaw, who travelled from Singapore to Java on the same steamer as Mrs Maefie, and he was detained by the Dutch police, but later he was completely exonerated. It was then suggested that some of the hotel boys had murdered Mrs Maefie iu order to secure tier jewellery. Mrs Maclie’s maiden oame was Sofia. The family lived for a number of years in New Zealand before going to Sandringham, Victroia.J
