INCREASING STREET LAMPS On Wednesday night ihe City Couneil will be asked to approve the schedule of the city engineer in regard to additional street lights to he erected and lights to lie changed during the year. The list provides for the erection of 150 new lights and for the moving or changing of twenty-six lights. These additions will increase, the department’s expenditure for street lighting by £425 17s a year. Tho Works Committee lias considered the question of improving the lighting of Princes and George streets. Those streets arc at present lighted by 100 c.p. lamps, the same as in the suburban streets, and when lights in the business premises are off, the thoroughfare is not well illuminated considering that it is tho main street of the city. It is accordingly recommended that the present 100 c.p. niraps be replaced with 25)0 c.p. lamps with special fittings for tho whole of those portions of George street and Princes street between Albany street and Anderson’s Bay road. The additional annual charge for lighting and maintenance will be £259 12s.
