NEW TOWN HALL
CONCRETE PROPOSAL UNDER WAY SUGGESTED APPROPRIATE! CF TRADING PROFITS The Finance Committee of ihc City Council, which has recently had under consideration the question of the erection of a Town Hall, has recommended that immediate instructions bo given to the architect to proceed with the detail plans of a Town Hall, substantially in accordance with the design approved ns the result of the competition hold some years ago. Certain modifications in the design are necessary, including provision for increased office accommodation in the bas.unoni on the eastern side.
The method of financing the venture recommended by the committee is set out in a detail minute hy the town clerk, a copy of which has been supplied to each member of the council, hut which is not available for publication.
Briefly stated, tlie method is to appropriate £25,000 of the profits of the trading accounts to 31 arch 31. U2fi. as the nucleus of the Town Hall Con-struct-ion Fund, and to provide the balance of the sum required over a period of three years hy a variation in the amounts paid into the Renewal Fund Accounts, ft is estimated that (ho hall can be completed within three years from date. The estimated cost, including the provision and erection of a suitable organ, is £OO,OOO.
