LEAGUE COUNCIL

THE GENEVA MEETING NO AGREEMENT IN COMPOSITION. Pn*ss Association —By Telegraph—Copyright GENEVA, June 8. The session of the committee on.the Composition Council, which was fixed for June 28, has been adjourned, and an extraordinary session of the Council will be convened before the meeting of the Assembly in September. This indicates that no agreement has been reached with Spain and Brazil in regard to the future composition of the Council.—A. and N.Z. Cable. BRAZIL’S WITHDRAWAL. FEABS OF SPAIN’S RESIGNATION. LONDON, June 9. (Received June 10, at 8.45 a.in.) The Geneva correspondent of the ‘ Daily Express ’ says that the receipt of the despatch from Rio de Janeiro announcing that Brazil intends to withdraw’ from the League was a bombshell. She will not participate in the September Assembly, although the Covenant provides that a withdrawal shall not operate for tw'o years after the notice. This is a sequel ’to tho March dispute concerning Germany. There is widespread fear that Spain will follow suit. This is based on tho absence of Senor Quinones and Signor Delon from the Council meeting; also on the fact that Spain’s disarmament representative has gone to Madrid for instructions. Others fear that the Argentine will recede from her intention to rejoin. Thus, if South America is not represented, a serious blow will bo dealt at tho League.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
