RUGBY LEAGUE RECEPTION TO QUEENSLANDERS. The Queensland Rugby League football team, accompanied by Air Harry Sunderland and J. Dovle (joint managers! and Mr H. do Wolfe (representing tlie Now Zealand Council), arrived from Timarn by last night’s express, and was accorded an enthusiastic reception at tho railway station by a largo crowd. Mr W. B. Taverner, in the unavoidable absence of the mayor, tendered the team and officials—a party of twenty-nine members—a. hearty _ welcome on behalf of the city. Ho said he was sorry the weather was so inclement, and hoped that the visitors would have an enjoyable stay in Dunedin An adjournment was made to the Excelsior Hotel, where the team is accommodated. Mr Taverner again spoke, and Mr B. S. Irwin mentioned tnnt Dunedin had shown a fine sporting spirit in supporting the Rugby League code in its effort to obtain recognition, Mr Sunderland, who is secretary of the Queensland Rugby League, referred enthusiastically to the reception given them throughout New Zealand, where they had all enjoyed the dominion’s sport as well as its hospitality. They had come to this country to demonstrate tho attractions of the new code, and also to show that one State in the Commonwealth having taken up the League game, had proved itself capable of producing a representative team who were gentlemen on and off the field. Mr J. T. Cooper, president of the Otago Rugby League, also spoke.
