SOUTHERN REQUIREMENTS
Will URGE COMPLETION MAIN TRUNK DEVELOPMENT OF SCENIC RESOURCES [From. Our Paiu.iamexx.uu' Reporter.] WELLINGTON, August 11. The South Island Members’ Association executive has discussed the attitude it should adopt towards the completion of the South Island Alain Trunk Railway, and lias decided unanimously to support flic progress leagues in their deputation. Mr Sullivan, secretary of the executive, has definitely arranged with the Premier to receive a deputation next Thursday,, nncl Air Sidey has been appointed to introduce the deputation. At a subsequent meeting of the executive, a comprehensive, programme of South Island requirements was adopted for representation to the Government by the combined South Island members. The development of the scenic resources is a prominent feature, with more publicity, and bettor facilities to get to such scenic spots as Akaroa, Caroline Bay, the West (igasfc glaciers, Alouut Cook, and southern lakes, with special regard to the tracks and Southland’s beauty spots. The deputation will also urge a vote for the continuation of the Otago Central lino to Luggatc. The executive members at the last meeting were Alessrs Sidey (chairman), Sulliwun (secretary), Hanan, Girling, O’Brien, F. J. Rolieston, Horn, and AP Combs.
