LONDON, July 23. Mr L S. Amery (Secretary of State for the Dominions) and Dr Haden Guest, M.P., were the guests at the self-supporting Empire League’s luncheon at the Hotel Cecil. All the food served was produced in ( the Empire. Admiral Clark Kerr presided. In the course of his speech Mr Amery emphasised the limitless possibilities of the British people’s resources. The ideal of the league was -.hiefly attainable through the medium cf housewives in making their purchases. -They were really the direct factor of the Empire’s, prosperity, and it was therefore necessary to educate them concerning their moral responsibility to the Empire. Dr Haden Guest pleaded with the women not to be dominated by the fetish of cheapness, but by buying things produced under the best stands ids of life as they were m Britain and the dominions.
