Floods occurred throughout the country, and 200 families in Birmingham, who were flooded out, escaped in their night clothes. Several houses collapsed.' Lightning destroyed the tower of the Canadian pavilion at Wembley, and the falling debris knocked out the side of the pavilion. Rain damaged the exhibits.
