LEGAL BATTLE

* CHRISTIANITY AND EVOLUTION THE TENNESSEE TRIAL Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, NEW YORK, July 20. Nine affidavits filed by prominent scientists, educationists, and clergymen in the Scopes caso declare briefly that evolution in Nature is an undeniable .fact, the proscription of which in the schools would work untold harm. They further declare Vhafc evolution does not conflict with religion, for it is God’s method of continuous creation and revelation of Himself to man, and also that there is no conflict between the Bible and tho fact of evolution. One affidavit says: “The Fundamentalist insults God in shutting mail’s mind to God’s over-growing revelations of Himself to the human soul.”

Mr Harrow also submitted a statement as follows:—“We, as the defence lawyers, take no position regarding the truth of the Bible stories, and wish to state that wo should be ablo to prove from learned Biblical scholars that the Bihlo is both a litoral and a figurative document, and that God speaks His parables and allegories sometimes literally and sometimes spiritually. Wo should be able to prove that the entire Bible teaches the fact of the fundamental difference between tli■ sou! and tho body.” Sydney 1 Sun ’ Cable. JONAH AND THE WHALE. NEW YORK, July 21. He believed what the Bible said. One miracle was just as easy to believe, as another.
