In the Arbitration Court Mr Justice Powers gave his decision in the shipping dispute. He said he had no legal authority to abolish the Shipping Labor Bureau Sydney, but he made an order preventing the shipowners from insisting on the men registering at tho bureau as a condition upon which preference would be granted. Mr Justice Powers said ho had made tho order preventing the owners insisting on the men registering at tho_ bureau contingent upon the men returning to work, and ho threatened that if the union disobeyed his award ho would consider favorably an application from the shipowners for the deregistration of the union. In the early, hours of Saturday morning an attempt was made at Fremantle to set tho steamers Clan Mac Nair and Port Bowen adrift. The rope hawsers mooring them to the wharf were cut, but the vessels were kept at the wharf bv steel hawsers. The men resnonsiblo for the outrage were surprised in the middle of their work, and after a revolver shot had been fired, presumably from one of the ships, tho miscreants escaped. All the vessels tied up at the wharf now arc substituting steel for rope hawsers.
