ANNIVERSARY SERVICES

WESLEY CHURCH, CARGILL ROAD. Sundav school anniversary services were held at Wesley Church, Cargill road, yesterday. In the morning the minister, tho Rev. H. L. Richards, conducted the service, and based his remarks on Luke xvii., If. The sermon related to tho want of gratitude of those persons whom Jesus had just cured of the leprosy. The preacher appealed to the people to assist tho superintendent and tho teachers, and to make sacrifices for the children’s sake. In tho afternoon close on 200 scholars were on the platform, and the Rev. E. O. Blnmiro.s was in the pulpit. Ho told the scholars a story about a day dream. Tho theme dealt with a voyage on tho “Rea of Life” from the “Land of Restless Youth” to tho “Laud of Settled Content.” Numerous vessels were ready to j do tho voyage (he said), but the safest one was on board 11.M.5-. “ Gospel,” with tho “ Admiral Jesus.” In tho evening the church was crowded, when the Rev. R. Raino conducted the I service. Ho took as Ida text. “The. Lord j is my shepherd; I shall not want.” In Inssenn.vn ho spoke, on ‘ .Mother,' and referred : to the. mother’s influence in tho home, and I with the family. A strong appeal was made to the mothers to give their children I the best training possible and to set a ! worthy example, not only physically, but' morally and spiritually. j A feature of the anniversary- was the • singing of a largo choir of scholars under tho leadership of Mr W. W. Ashby. They i were assisted by an orchestra,. Miss Smith | presided at the piano and Mr W, Cunning- j ham at the organ. At tho various services i solos were rendered by blisses Gladys liar- l per, Rona Sincock, Florence and Jessie j Homan, duets by blasters Willie Johnston and Percy Davis, and two tiny tots from | tho infant department.
