POSITION OF TEAMS. The following is the position of the teams in the first grade at the conclusion of the second round:-

GYMNASTIC v. ’VARSITY J 3, , The Oval No. 3 ground was very heavy, and a fast game was out of the question, but the meeting of the above teams made interesting hockey, as it was a drawn game when they last met. The game opened with very even play, and until well on in the spell no score was registered. Patterson, Gymnastic’s full-back, stopped a dangerous Blue rush, and with a long drive placed to Gardiner, who centred to Mitchell. A tussle in the circle ensued, and Hewitt opened the score with a hot shot, which gave the goalkeeper no chance. From the ensuing bully the Reds again attacked, and Hewitt was again successful in registering. Half-time sounded with play in midfield. Gymnastic 2, ’Varsity 0.

On resuming play ’Varsity attacked strongly, and Bow ell was unfortunate in not scoring, but Templeton and Fleet wore playing a, sound game, and were hard to pass. In quick succession Bye, for Gymnastic, semed 2 goals, and a fine solo run by Taylor on the left-wing resulted in the ball glancing off the upright into the net.

OTAGO v. ’VARSITY I. Otago played at full strength, and ’Varsity with throe emergencies. Otago faced the sun, and from the initial bully ’Varsity attacked strongly. Miss Millan relieved, and sent her forwards .away. A weak shot from Miss ITaulin nullified tho effort. ’Varsity again attacked, and Miss Hei scored. A good rush by Otago forwards and Miss Hardin scored, followed immediately after by Miss R. Lattimor scoring, Otago leading by 2 to 1 at halftime. A strong run and good centre from Miss Kano, and; bliss Black equalised; then from a scramble bliss E. Simmers gave tho lead. ’Varsity tired, and Otago ’broke through on numerous occasions. blisses Lattimor and 1 Pickering scored just on time, bliss Lawson scored with a hot shot off a corner hit. Mr J. Gray was the referee. Otago 5 'Varsiy 1 3 TRAINING COLLEGE v. MOMONA.

Training College I. added another win to their credit, heating Momona by 4 goals to 1. The combined play of the former team won the day, meeting but little opposition from tho opposing backs. Miss Balk was Mnmona’s outstanding player, while Miss Spittle was conspicuous in the College team, as was also Miss Steel. For the winners goals wore scored by Miss Spittle (3), Miss Jones (1), while Miss Andrews scored Momona's only goal. Training College I. 4 Momona 1 Mr H. J. Smith was referee. B GRADE.
