CITY TRAMWAYS

CAVERSHAM AND ST. CLAIR LINES BLOCKED YESTERDAY. ROSLYN SERVICE ALSO FAILED. GARDENS LINE INTERRUPTED. NEARLY ALL CLEAR THIS AFTERNOON. The tramways staff bad great difficulties to contend against yesterday. One or two early cars got through to Gaversham in tho afternoon, but a car became derailed near the terminus, and flooding at Glen road and Wilkie road made that route impassable. Forbury Corner also got blocked, a perfect river rushing down David street. At tho north end the road to Normanby could not bo used after 4 p.m., whilst tlie Gardens service became impossible at 8 p.m. On the St. Kilda lino tho break of a sewer cap caused a stick up near tho railway overhead bridge. This morning valiant endeavors were made, and mot with much success. The early running on the level was confined to the stretch between Union street and Maitland street, but later in the mornI ing tho service to tho Gardens was resumed, and by 2 p.m. the manager was able to report that the lino was clear from Normanby to St. Clair, and that ho had a hope of getting through to St. Kilda about 2.30 and Gaversham about 3 p.m. The Anderson Bay lino was not interfered with at all. Nor was the cable lire to Mornington—it stood all right, as well as tho Maryhill branch. Tho Roslyn cable line had to stop yesterday about' 5, owing to the engine room being flooded by Fraser’s Creek, but tho cars started again a little before 2 this afternoon. KAIKORAI TRAMS. The Kaikorai escaped injury of any kind, and has been running as usual all tho time.
