TEACHERS’ WITHDRAWALS

SCHEME TO PREVENT BAD PRACTICE. The immediate withdrawal of teachers after having been appointed to schools was condemned by the Canterbury Education Board yesterday, and that body resolved to take steps to ensure a stoppage of the practice. A letter was received from the Taranaki Board with reference to the matter, and the Appointments Committee concurred with the Taranaki Board that some action should be taken, and it therefore recommended that unless some satisfactory reason could be given for withdrawing from a position for which a teacher had been recommended the board would not consider further applications from such applicant for sis months. It was also agreed to inform the Education Department that the board proposed to lake this step in order to minimise the great inconvenience which was now being experienced owing to numerous withdrawals. In support of the argument Mr T. Hughes read a list of the names of men and women who had sinned in this way. lie mentioned that it was decided to cite to tile Education Department in support of fhe board’s decision all cases of withdrawals which had occurred during the past month.
