IRON PRINCE ABANDONED
CREW AND PASSENGERS SAFE. The Iron Trincc (which ran on a reef off (Tape ilowej has been abandoned, ana is expected to become a total wreck.—-Sydney cable. WELLINGTON, April 20. Further intormanoii regarding the steamer Iron Prince, which was stranded in the vicinity of Cape Howe yesterday, has been received by Uie secretary of the J'ust and Telegraph Department. At 11. 00 p.m. yesterday the captain of the Iron Prince advised Unit the ship was (starting to break up, and he asked the /shipping autnonties in his vicinity to island by for developments, as he expected 1 to abandon the steamer at any minute, /because he feared the masts would break. A message sent out at 11.41 p.m. from the ISydiuy radio station asked any coastal ships handy to stand by the J stranded steamer in readiness to pick up ( a boatload Irom the Iron Prince, as there Were thirteen passengers aboard. I lie Iron I’nnco advised at 11.52 p.m.: “ Am going to boats now." The Sydney radio station sent out a message at 12.47 a.in. to-day asking the steamer Aldinga to stand by the Iron Prince till daybreak. The Aldinga advised at 4 o’clock this morning: “ Lifeboat and crew of Iron Prince hauled aboard our vessel now." This was followed by a message from the Aldinga at 4.45 o’clock reporting; “Ail the crew safe."
