The Hon. John Granville Woolley, whose death at Granada (Spain) on Sunday last was reported) in last night’s issue)' was born at Collinsville, Ohio, United States, on February 15, 1850; graduated in tbs Ohio Wesleyan _ University and the University of Michigan; was* admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of Illinois in 1873: practised at New York up to 1886: entered the lecture field in 1888; was tho Prohibition candidate for the United States Presidency in 1900; toured the world, speaking on Prohibition, in 1901 and 1905; and was the author of a number of books, including ‘Civilisation by Faith,’ Tho Call of an Epoch,’ and ‘ A Lion Hunter.’ On each of his world tours he visited Dunedin, and) thus twice became the. guest of Mr A. S. Adams, now Mr Justice Adams. During ope of these visits he preached in First Church. Mr “Pussyfoot” Johnson, who sends the news of the death, was at one time in association with Mr Woolley, fop Mr Woolley edited the ‘ New York Voice,’ and _ Johnson, then a. young man, was at the time on the staff of the ‘ Voice.’ That the death, should have taken place at Granada is probably explainable in this way: that one of Mr Woolley’s last works seems to_ have been to trace the abolition of Prohibition in Iceland, which was brought about by the action of the Spanish Government. That may have been tho cause of his visit to the old Andalusian city.
